SOUTHERN LOOP | 6 Days – 5 Nights

In our 6 days cruise you will have the chance to discover the wonders of Espanola Island; the Southern visitor site with a unique ecosystem and endemic encounters.

Once you disembark in Punta Suarez you will be transported to the time when Charles Darwin set foot on this “living laboratory”. Nazca boobies, Blue footed boobies, Waved Albatross, sea lions, and others will join you during the walk following Darwin’s steps.

We consider Española the highlight of this adventure. But it is not the only wild site that you will visit! The boat will move during evening; sailing between Santa Cruz, South Plazas, Santa Fe, San Cristobal, and Floreana.

Every visitor site has been approved and set by Galapagos National Park regulations establishing a maximum quantity of groups at the same time at the same place!

Day 1

A flight from Quito or Guayaquil will connect you with your 6 days cruise. You will land on the island of Baltra where you will meet the yacht staff and drive from Baltra airport to the Itabaca Channel where the Encantada is waiting for you. Then there will be a short cruise to the north side of Santa Cruz Island for your first visit to Bachas Beach.

We return to the boat in our dinghy to enjoy the sunset over the Galapagos. At night we will sail to Plazas Islands.

Day 2

Plazas Island is a small island with steep cliffs. We transfer by dingy to the shore to walk along a well-marked trail, passing cactuses, and a number of iguanas. Both on land and in the sea are big colonies of sea lions.

After our visit we return to the boat and continue the 6 days cruise to Santa Fe Island, located roughly halfway between Santa Cruz and San Cristobal islands. There is a small and picturesque bay here where we drop anchor and head to shore to walk. It is an island replete with prickly pear cactus and an endemic land iguana population.

Day 3

In the morning we will be at San Cristobal Island. Our first stop in this 6 days cruise is Leon Dormido or Kicker Rock that juts from the sea in geologic splendor. It’s a fantastic place to snorkel, swimming through a passage between the rocks. Colorful sea stars dot the walls, hundreds of brilliant fish swim by, and we often see rays, sharks, and sea turtles.

After lunch, we continue on to the port town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.  Over a hundred years ago this town started out as a penal colony.  Today it has a lovely waterfront where sea lions lounge.  Our highlight is the excellent National Park Interpretation Center which provides an overview to the Park’s natural and human history.

Day 4

Disembark in Española Island where wildlife is truly a highlight of this island and the best-known star: waved albatross. From January to March they leave the islands to feed along the mainland of Ecuador, so if you are planning to spot them ask for a 6 days cruise departure during breeding season! There are plenty of other animals and birds to see nevertheless.

From Suarez Point we cruise to Gardner Bay and Osborn Islet for an afternoon of more exploration. There’s a lovely beach here as well as good snorkeling. With luck you will snorkel with sea turtles, sea lions, and dozens of colorful fish.

Day 5

An overnight of the 6 days cruise, takes us to Floreana Island and a stop at the famous Post Office Bay where 18th century whalers left messages in a wooden barrel as an unofficial mail box.

We return to the sea and cruise to Cormorant Point where we go ashore for a wonderful walk along a sandy beach and visit a lagoon where pink flamingoes along with other shore birds wade and feed, then we will go Baroness Lookout, located between Cormorant point and Bay of the Mail.

We then continue to the small islet called “Champion” which is considered one of the top snorkeling spots in all the islands. With masks and fins you can explore an underwater world and are likely to be snorkeling with sea turtles, many colorful reef fish, white-tipped reef sharks, and possibly even Galapagos penguins.

Back on board the Encantada we enjoy the sunset and dinner.  Later in the night the engines start for a cruise north to Santa Cruz Island.

Day 6

The last day of these 6 days cruise, we wake up in the harbor of Puerto Ayora on the island of Santa Cruz, the largest town in the Galapagos Islands.  A short walk takes us to the Charles Darwin Research Station and an opportunity to learn more about conservation work in the Galapagos before your transfer to Baltra Airport. End of our services.
